about the red sea series:

In 2009 I returned to the Vermont Studio Center for Vermont Artists Week and chose to be a printmaker instead of a painter. Printmaking, unlike painting, has an element of abandon to it, since the image comes out in reverse. I had no idea what I wanted to do, but bought cadmium red, burnt umber and ultramarine blue printing ink and began. The easy-going camaraderie amongst the four printmakers seemed at the time to be a great break from working alone in my painting studio.

The title came to me later – in the middle of the night. Their redness, their evocative, flowing, botanical worlds joined together with my remembrances of Egypt and thus Red Sea.
